Spanish French European Asian Subtitling Screen Text and Edit Lists Or Full Service For Video DVD CD-Rom

Running subtitles requires screen graphics and an Edit List. The Edit List contains the "in point" and "out point" time codes for each subtitle. Some edit lists can actually contain the subtitle text within the edit list itself, which text will be "thrown" onto the screen by the client's computer. Other edit lists "call up" graphic files to appear on screen according to the edit list timecodes. Related services:

There are two different subtitling methods: computer text or pre-fab "art files". The method that is most appropriate and economical will depend upon the language being subtitled and the client software. ABC alphabet languages can be run in almost any professional studio with the proper equipment and configuration. But traditional studios have difficulty handling Asian language characters as computer text. This is because Asian languages are NOT just a "font" (like Arial or Times), but rather Asian languages are produced from an entirely different operating system. Just as there is "Windows 2000" for English, there is a "Windows 2000 Chinese."

To bridge the difficulties involved in international computer systems, @International Services has developed a way to create "art files" that are broadcast quality and "ready to use". These "art files" (usually PICT, TIF, TGA, EPS or BMP) are then triggered onto the screen according to an edit list. The client can subtitle in-house, with their preferred post-production studio, or @International Services can run the subtitling. For first time in-house experience, client is assisted throughout the subtitling process. Once learned, companies can subtitle in-house with ease.

WAL-MART GERMAN SUBTITLING This project was performed using an edit list with pre-fab graphics provided as TGA files. Client uses a "mesh" below the graphics to obscure other English text already burned onto the video.	HOLIDAY INN ENGLISH - SPANISH Several companies, including Holiday Inn, produce many videos in both English and Spanish. English videos are subtitled in Spanish, and vice versa. In this way, the video content can reach the broadest audience possible.
N C R DANISH SUBTITLING Although Danish is an ABC language, it has extremely unusual letters and accent marks that are not compatible with the majority of English graphic software. Thus, many graphic fonts cannot be used with working with Danish, Czech, Turkish or other similar languages.	TRAVELER'S GROUP SPANISH OPEN CAPTIONING This is "open captioning". Regular "captioning" is the subtitling produced for the deaf that appears in the ugly black boxes on screen when special buttons are pushed. "Open captioning" is burned into the video, and cannot be turned off an on. It does retain the black boxes. This process is a good alternative for a few ABC languages only, such as Spanish or Portuguese. And must be produced in a very special studio equipped for such services. This approach cannot be used for 98% of the world's languages.
U P S MANDARIN SUBTITLING The pre-fab files are prefect for Asian subtitling. Client can relax, knowing that the subtitles and screen text are perfect. Laying subtitles in languages which the developer cannot read is smooth, and guaranteed to work perfectly.
